The Harvesters: Press Release: "They’ve been watching. They’ve been waiting. And now, they are here. Broadcast Pictures is thrilled to announce production on THE HARVESTERS.  This frightening new tale of terror is written and directed by Nick Sanford. After a hugely successful Kickstarter, this modern tale of terror begins shooting today, April 4th, with a scheduled 18-day shoot. Set and shot in his home state of Oklahoma, this haunting mystery provides a richly cinematic horror experience unlike any other, utilizing old-fashioned filmmaking techniques and pushing them in a bold and adventurous new direction.

Sanford, along with the film’s producers Laurie Cummings (BLUEBERRY HALL), Paul Lister (BY DAWN), Andrew McDonald (THAI FOOD) and James Oster (aka JimmyO from JoBlo.com and Arrow In The Head, SICK FOR TOYS) is ecstatic to announce that the beginning of principle photography has begun. The bulk of which will be from April 4th to April 24th, and will take place exclusively in Oklahoma in towns such as Tuttle, Newcastle, Purcell, Macomb, and director Nick Sanford’s hometown of Moore.

The film received attention for raising its entire $30,000 budget on Kickstarter that included unusual rewards such as a Literal Social Media Shoutout and a haunted ghost tour with the cast and crew, all in a state not immediately known for large-scale, grassroots filmmaking. “This is something special,” adds co-producer James Oster, “THE HARVESTERS is a truly homegrown horror story. The idea of bringing Oklahoma to life in such an exciting and terrifying way is something that is truly exhilarating to be a part of.”

Director Nick Sanford adds, “It’s truly supposed to be a film about Oklahoma. That was part of the impetus of the project. Something that really reflects my home state, this place where I grew up. We’ve been through a lot of disasters in Moore. My grandparents and several of my closest friends all lost their homes during the May 20th tornado, and this community was really affected by it, so it’s not a coincidence that I started writing the script a week later. It’s a film that confronts crisis and disaster in a way that I haven’t seen in a lot of low-budget horror films. The whole thing is how one confronts terrible things like that and discovers their place in things. It’s a very personal story to me, and I’m very proud to be from Oklahoma for that reason. Don’t get me wrong — it’s still going to be a thrilling, entertaining mystery, but always grounded by that very real-life fear and appreciation for Oklahoma and its power.”

Synopsis: On Halloween in Baileyville, Oklahoma, a journalist who prides herself on objective reporting discovers that she is trapped in the middle of a series of horrifying murders and disappearances. When the terror intensifies and a countdown begins, the people closest to Jane are put in danger and her journalistic stance on “not becoming the story” is put to the ultimate test.

The film stars Alissa Rose Ford (ARMY OF FRANKENSTEINS), Laurie Cummings (THE SCENT OF RAIN AND LIGHTNING), frequent Nick Sanford collaborator Adam Hampton (GIVE IT TO SOMEONE YOU LOVE, THE UNUSUAL CALLING OF CHARLIE CHRISTMAS, ROUGH CUT), Emmy-winner Jason Gwynn (FULL SPEED OR NOTHING, GOING DARK: THE FINAL DAYS OF FILM PROJECTION), Andrew McDonald (ELUSIVE), Lucas Ross (RUDDERLESS), Sidney Flack (GOSNELL: AMERICA’S BIGGEST SERIAL KILLER, CHILDREN OF THE CORN: RUNAWAY, HELLRAISER X: JUDGMENT), Arden Moad (THE LURE) and Page Tudyk (ELECTRIC NOSTALGIA, ROUGH CUT).

Director of Photography: Matt Bauske (HELLRAISER X: JUDGMENT, CHILDREN OF THE CORN: RUNAWAY)
Composer: Jonathan Paulsen (HUNT THE TRUTH, TEMPUS FUGIT)

Filmmaker bio: Born and raised in Moore, Oklahoma, Nick Sanford began his filmmaking career by flooding his parents’ back porch while trying to shoot a remake of “Titanic” that got him grounded, but started a lifelong passion of entertaining people with cameras. He nearly failed his senior year of high school when making a no-budget, feature-length crime comedy “Black Lightning,” then swept Oklahoma and Texas film festivals with the horror-drama “Tempus Fugit.” Sanford, along with a trio of producers, is beginning work on his next film, “The Harvesters,” a horror-mystery with the intent of “giving audiences an ambitious big-screen experience” with its roots in 70s classics like “Jaws,” “Halloween,” and “Alien.”

About the Author - Tamika Jones

Tamika hails from North Beach, Maryland, a tiny town inches from the Chesapeake Bay.She knew she wanted to be an actor after reciting a soliloquy by Sojourner Truth in front of her entire fifth grade class. Since then, she's appeared in over 20 film and television projects. In addition to acting, Tamika is the Indie Spotlight manager for Daily Dead, where she brings readers news on independent horror projects every weekend.

The first horror film Tamika watched was Child's Play. Being eight years old at the time, she remembers being so scared when Chucky came to life that she projectile vomited. It's tough for her to choose only one movie as her favorite horror film, so she picked two: Nosferatu and The Stepford Wives (1975).
