Two boys try to survive the violent world of their action figure playset, a group of skateboarding buddies are hunted down in broad daylight by a cult, and a young woman is placed on home arrest in a house haunted by an aggressive ghost. The Knoxville Horror Film Fest is bringing huge helpings of big screen horror to the Southeastern US this Halloween season.

KNOXVILLE, TN - SEPT 24, 2014 -- "The Knoxville Horror Film Fest will present its sixth annual weekend of scare-friendly cinema on October 2426, bringing the genre film festival experience to East Tennessee with a slate of premier indie horror features and a barrage of unique shorts from around the region and around the world. This year’s festival will kick off Friday night at Regal Downtown West, return for an all-day marathon of screenings on Saturday, then wrap up across town on Sunday afternoon with two additional film screenings and an awards ceremony & costume party at Market Square’s Scruffy City Hall.

KHFF has upped the ante each year since its single evening 2009 debut, and 2014 will be no exception, packing the weekend tighter than ever before with seven hand-picked feature presentations. This year’s lineup includes fest favorite Richard Bates, Jr’s buzzed about dark comedy Suburban Gothic; horror anthology sequels V/H/S Viral and The ABCs Of Death 2; Gerard Johnstone’s crowd -pleasing horror laffer Housebound; renowned Canadian collective Astron-6’s meta-giallo The Editor; Axelle Carolyn’s moody ghost story Soulmate; and Matt O’Mahoney’s splatter comedy Bloody Knuckles. As with last year’s festival, each feature presentation is preceded by a themed selection of short films competing for prizes at Sunday’s Awards Party. (2014’s short film lineup will be announced along with the final festival schedule in October.)

Saturday night will also premiere the locally made trailers comprising the fourth annual Grindhouse Grind-Out Filmmaking Contest. The de facto main event of KHFF for many of Knoxville’s wildest creative types, the Grind-Out pits two dozen teams against each other to produce over-the-top movie trailers based on a lottery of genres from ‘Spaghetti Western’ to current media darling ‘Sharksploitation’. (The competition kicks off on Thursday, October 2, with teams given a tight deadline of six days and sixty-six minutes to complete their films. Teams can register through KHFF’s website for $30.) The audience is invited to vote for their favorites, with winners announced alongside a variety of jury awards on Sunday night... as well as a special award from guest judge Lloyd Kaufman, of the legendary Troma Films!

Weekend Passes to all KHFF666 events (a $70 value) are available for a discounted price of $50 thru 9/30 at KHFF’s IndieGoGo crowdfunding page, which is also offering shirts, posters, and other opportunities in an effort to raise money in advance of the festival. Beginning in October, Weekend Passes and other ticketing options will remain available through KHFF’s website for $60.

KHFF invites submissions through October 1 on their website or at filmfreeway.com

Founded in October 2009 by genre film enthusiasts William Mahaffey and Nick Huinker, the Knoxville Horror Film Fest has grown from a single block of short films shown at Knoxville’s Pilot Light to become one of the Southeast’s most notable film festival experiences, as well as presenting monthly screenings of exclusive new releases and favored classics at venues throughout the area.
