After years of hearing about a possible remake, a new take on Poltergeist began filming earlier this week in Toronto. For those that missed our earlier reports, we have details on all of the main people involved. We also have news of a few new additions to the cast.

Gil Kenan (Monster House) is directing from a screenplay by David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz: The Great and Powerful). The film is being produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert via Ghost House Pictures, along with Roy Lee. Here's the official synopsis provided by MGM and Fox:

"In a revisionist take on the classic horror film, a family struggling to make ends meet relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil."

As far as casting goes, Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt star as the Bowen parents, who move their family to a new home. Their children will be played by Saxon Sharbino, Kennedi Clements, and Kyle Catlett. Jared Harris (LincolnThe Quiet Ones) will play the star of a TV show, titled Haunted House Cleaners, and it was recently announced (via THR) that Jane Adams (Hung) will play a parapsychologist that tries to help the family. No release date has been set, but we'll let readers know as soon as it is announced.
