It looks like another family has felt fear from The Further. Earlier this year it was revealed that scribe and co-star of the Insidious movies, Leigh Whannell, would make his directorial debut on Insidious Chapter 3. Production on the film is now underway, and the first set photo shows a familiar face from the first two films, with an official press release revealing that this third franchise entry is a prequel.
Insidious Chapter 3 is set for a May 29th, 2015 release. The first set photo gives us a look at actress Lin Shaye, who plays Elise Rainier, a supernatural specialist who gave guidance to the Lambert family against the tormented souls of The Further in the first two films. In the foreground of the photo is actress Stefanie Scott (from the upcoming live-action Jem And The Holograms). On the left side of the shot is writer/director Whannell, who will reprise his role as Elise's assistant Specs alongside fellow aide Tucker (Angus Sampson).
The third chapter will step back in time and see the paranormal investigating trio help a family deal with The Further before tackling the Lambert case. Focus Features will release Insidious: Chapter 3 domestically nationwide on Friday, May 29th, 2015. eOne will distribute the picture in Canada, U.K., and Spain; and Sony will distribute the picture in the rest of the world. Jason Blum of Blumhouse, who produced both previous movies in the series, is producing the next installment with returning producer Oren Peli and franchise co-creator James Wan, who directed the two earlier films written by Mr. Whannell with story by Mr. Wan and Mr. Whannell. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Steven Schneider, Charles Layton, and Xavier Marchand are executive-producing Insidious: Chapter 3.
Insidious, released in 2011, and Insidious: Chapter 2, released in 2013, grossed a combined $257 million worldwide."
