Following the recent reveal of a new poster and earlier release date for Alien: Covenant, 20th Century Fox celebrated Ridley Scott's 79th birthday today by revealing a new set photo featuring the director and what looks an awful lot like the Space Jockey, aka "the pilot," that the Nostromo crew discovered on LV-426 in the original Alien.

The new set photo was unveiled on the official Alien Twitter and Facebook pages, and you can view it below. Do you see this as a sign that Alien: Covenant will have a direct link to 1979's Alien?

Previously penciled in for an August 4th, 2017 release, Alien: Covenant is now scheduled to hit theaters on May 19th, 2017. A follow-up to 2012's Prometheus, Alien: Covenant is directed by Ridley Scott and features the return of Michael Fassbender as the android David.

The movie also stars Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Demián Bichir (The Bridge), Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Amy Seimetz (The Sacrament, You’re NextA Horrible Way to Die), Jussie Smollett (Empire), Carmen Ejogo (The Purge: Anarchy), Callie Hernandez (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, Machete Kills), and Billy Crudup (Spotlight).

It was previously reported that Noomi Rapace was spotted on the Alien: Covenant set in Australia, presumably to reprise her role as Elizabeth Shaw from Prometheus. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more details.

The second of three planned Alien prequel films, Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant has the following synopsis:

Alien: Covenant synopsis: “Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”
