Daily Dead recently interviewed Bushwick star Dave Bautista and co-directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion at the Sundance Film Festival, and following the thriller's world premiere at the fest's Midnight program, RLJ Entertainment has already acquired Bushwick for US distribution.

A theatrical release date for Bushwick, which also stars Brittany Snow, is not yet known, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated when more details are announced. In the meantime, we have the official press release with more information:

Press Release: Los Angeles, CA (January 27, 2017) – XYZ Films and WME Global have announced that they have sold the U.S. rights for the Sundance action thriller BUSHWICK to RLJ Entertainment in a seven-figure deal for a theatrical release. The film, which was directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott (COOTIES), made its world premiere at the festival. The film stars Dave Bautista and Brittany Snow. In addition, talks are currently underway for a multi-territory deal with a major studio distributor.

Nate Bolotin brokered the deal on behalf of XYZ Films alongside WME Global. Mark Ward and Jess De Leo negotiated on behalf of RLJ Entertainment.

“We’re thrilled to work with esteemed filmmakers like Cary and Jonathan to help bring BUSHWICK to the big screen,” said Ward. “With a great cast and a very timely story, we feel this is a film that will resonate with audiences all across the country.”

“RLJ Entertainment is a fearless distributor that specializes in releasing unique and courageous projects,” said Murnion and Milott. “Films like BUSHWICK, and their 2015 release, BONE TOMAHAWK, show their passion and commitment for working with filmmakers who challenge the conventions of genre films. We are thrilled about this partnership.”

Based on a script by Nick Damici and Graham Reznick, from a story by Murnion and Milott, the film was produced by Bolotin, Bullet Pictures’ Adam Folk and Joseph Mensch of Mensch Productions. Executive producers included Bautista, Jonathan Meisner, Nick Spicer, and Todd Brown.

BUSHWICK introduces us to Lucy, who emerges from a Brooklyn subway to find that her neighborhood is under attack by black-clad military soldiers. An ex-Marine corpsman, Stupe, reluctantly helps her fight for survival through a civil war, as Texas attempts to secede from the United States of America.

XYZ’s current slate also includes APOSTLE, directed by Gareth Evans and starring Dan Stevens, Academy Award winner Anders Walters’ feature debut I KILL GIANTS, which stars Zoe Saldana, Imogen Poots, and Madison Wolfe, as well as S.Craig Zahler’s BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99, which stars Vince Vaughn and Don Johnson.
