A number of new movies were hoping to take the top spot away from Captain America: The Winter Solider this weekend, but the Marvel sequel easily held onto first place for the third weekend in a row. The Captain America sequel earned an estimated $26.6 million over the weekend and brought its US total to $201.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has earned $586 million.

Rio 2 also had a strong showing, holding onto second place and earning $22.5 million over the weekend. Heaven is for Real was the big winner among this week's new releases. With an estimated production budget of $12 million, the movie took in $21.5 million in the US over the weekend. Transcendence didn't fare as well, earning a disappointing $11.1 million and carrying an estimated production budget of $100 million.

A Haunted House 2 may not appeal to all horror fans, but they have a formula that works. Even though the sequel earned half of what the first one did on its opening weekend, A Haunted House 2 still made $9.1 million off of a production budget of $4 million. While that number doesn't include the marketing budget, it's not a terrible start.

Next week sees the release of Brick Mansions, The Other Woman, and The Quiet Ones. Here's a look at this week's top ten:
