Elysium, the new project from District 9's Neill Blomkamp continues to sound better and better. We have previously reported that Jodie Foster, Matt Damon, and Sharlto Copley will be starring. Now we have some additional news that the famous Syd Mead will be designing the sets for Elysium. He's known for his design work on Blade Runner, Aliens, and Tron, so you know Blomkamp is aiming for big with this film.
Blomkamp has also been shopping the film to various studios and it has officially been picked up by Sony Pictures, which makes sense given the success of District 9 under Sony. This is being planned as an "R-rated event film" and Deadline has been given a very basic plot outline:
"I'm told this the movie has the social allegory present in the Sony Pictures Entertainment-directed District 9, but it's an unabashedly big movie, set 100 years in the future, with all of the obligatory gadgets and technological advances."
