Last month, it had been revealed that Warner Bros. was talking to a number of in-demand directors to take on The Twilight Zone movie, including Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay, and Alfonso Cuaron.
It is now being reported that Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves has emerged as Warner Bros' top choice to direct the film. According to Deadline, negotiations begin next week, but he is expected to official sign on shortly. If all goes well, the plan is to polish the script and begin production in the summer of 2012.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way, has been working on getting this single-story Twilight Zone movie onto the big screen since 2009, but Warner Bros. is looking for their next big franchise and probably sees potential in a series of The Twilight Zone movies. The plot of the film remains unknown, but it will not be a retelling of any specific episode of the TV series. However, it is said that the film “touches on several themes from the Rod Sterling TV show”.
Matt Reeves is currently attached to multiple projects including This Dark Endeavor, The Passage, and 8 O’Clock in the Morning. There is no word on how The Twilight Zone will affect his involvement in the other projects at this time.
