Underworld Awakening had a strong opening with $25.4 million and took the top spot at the box office this weekend. This was the 2nd biggest opening for the Underworld franchise, behind 2006's $26.8 million opening for Underworld: Evolution. Should Underworld Awakening continue to perform well in the coming weeks, a sequel looks likely.
Red Tails and Haywire were also new releases this week and had decent openings. Contraband continues to do solid business and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is very close to crossing the $200 million domestic mark. Next week's openings include The Grey, Man on a Ledge, and One for the Money. Robin Hardy's The Wicker Tree will also receive a limited theatrical release.
