The news front on Spike TV's adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist has been relatively quiet in recent months, but that's now changed thanks to a new interview Lilja's Library conducted with Christian Torpe, the creator, executive producer, and showrunner of The Mist TV series, who discussed adapting King's novella, his respect for Frank Darabont's 2007 film, King's reaction to the pilot episode, and more.
Speaking with Lilja's Library, Torpe expressed his desire to do something different with his take on King's seminal novella, including not retreading Darabont's adaptation, which he greatly admires:
"It is not the same story as in the book and the movie, nor is it the same characters – but fans of the story will still see clear parallels... Some things are exactly the same, some are totally different. Some things you think are the same as in the original, but turn out to be something else entirely."
Torpe also confirmed to Lilja's Library that The Mist is being "developed as an ongoing series" past the first season (should it be renewed for another season), and he talked about King's positive reception to the show so far:
"He was such a gentleman, incredibly generous in terms of the changes I have made. He has also read and seen the pilot and thought it was ”pretty damn good”."
