After the box office and critical success of Chronicle, a sequel seemed very likely. With a production budget of around $12 million, the film earned $105+ million worldwide.

Earlier this week, we reported that Chronicle director Josh Trank was in negotiations with Sony to direct a Venom spin-off movie, so his involvement in a sequel is unknown. However, it has been reported that Chronicle writer Max Landis is officially back on board to write a sequel.

**Spoiler Warning** We have no plot details for the sequel at this time, but the first movie left it open for the main character to return. It was also hinted in the movie that a future story may provide more explanation for why the three friends received powers from their underground discovery. It will be interesting to see what direction they take the sequel's story in and we'll have more information on the project as it becomes available.

Max Landis has a number of other projects in development, including a new take on Frankenstein that Fox picked up. Last summer, director Shawn Levy came on board, but it is being reported that the project has been put on hold for budget reasons.
