Happy (nearly) March, readers! Tomorrow, we have a new month kicking off, which also means we have a brand new slate of VOD and Digital releases coming our way over the next few weeks. Some of the March highlight titles include Level 16 from Dark Sky Films, Cannibal Club on March 5th, Tangent and Book of Monsters from Epic Pictures, the Netflix exclusive anthology Love Death and Robots, and both The Field Guide to Evil and White Chamber rounding out March’s releases on the 29th.
Level 16 (Dark Sky Films) – March 1st
Sixteen-year-old Vivien is trapped in The Vestalis Academy, a prison-like boarding school, keeping to herself and sticking her neck out for no one. Until she is reunited with Sophia -- the former friend who betrayed her. Together the girls embark on a dangerous search to uncover the horrifying truth behind their imprisonment. Soon running for their lives, the girls must save themselves or die trying.
Stray (Screen Media) – March 1st
An orphaned teenager teams up with the detective investigating her mother’s murder. They soon discover a supernatural force threatening the city and realize the teen possesses hidden powers of her own which might be the key to stopping it.
Among the Shadows (Momentum Pictures) – March 5th
When her uncle is murdered, Kristy Wolfe (Charlotte Beckett), a Brussels private eye who is a descendant from a line of werewolves, soon realizes that there is a dangerous war brewing within the underworld. Hired by Patricia Sherman (Lindsay Lohan) to investigate the politically-motivated attack, Wolfe must use her innate instincts to unravel the case and stay alive long enough to unmask the conspiracy.
Between the Trees (Uncork’d Entertainment) – March 5th
Steve, suffering from a collapsing marriage, invites his three closest friends on a weekend retreat to the mountains only to discover his real troubles are in the trees that surround them. They encounter a deranged killer and their fun weekend becomes a deadly fight for survival.
Cannibal Club (Uncork’d Entertainment) – March 5th
Otavio and Gilda are a very wealthy couple of the Brazilian elite who have the habit of eating their employees. Otavio owns a private security company and is a notable member of The Cannibal Club. When Gilda accidentally discovers a secret from Borges, a powerful congressman and the Club’s leader, her and her husband’s lives are in grave danger.
Do It Yourself (Artsploitation Films) – March 5th
Small-time crook and ex-con Alkis is double-crossed by an ex-cellmate and finds himself trapped in a working porn studio where his shady, trigger-happy accomplices have no intention of letting him out alive. The disheveled crook has only one option – to escape by any means possible.
The House (Artsploitation Films) – March 5th
Set in the frozen wilderness of Norway during WWII, 2 German soldiers escort a Norwegian soldier and prisoner of war, but the weather is taking a toll on them. They find an empty house near the forest where they finally can get some rest. However, what seems to be a warm and welcoming shelter turns much more sinister and deadly. They begin to wonder if they have somehow stepped into a sort of psychological hell from which there may be no escape.
Kiss Kiss (Cleopatra Entertainment) – March 5th
After a glorious night at the strip club, the film follows dancers, Kiss, and her best friends Treasure and Kurious as they are led by newcomer Tia to an exclusive wine tasting. A beautiful day turns tragic when they wake up having been seduced by their captor and special forces veteran, Gibson, as he orchestrates a fight night that has each girl to battle against Fortune and Dream to prove that he’s found the perfect serum to enhance a human’s fighting abilities in combat. What Lies Ahead (Vision Films) – March 5th
Jessica (Emma Dumont) is head over heels in love with her new boyfriend Kyle. But when he is unexpectedly called to ER duty, he asks Jessica to fly to his home town in Georgia and accompany his sister Raven (Rumer Willis) as she drives up to New York to move closer to him following the recent death of their mother. Jessica reluctantly complies. As the two women get to know one another on this three-day journey – encountering assorted locals and misadventures along the way – it soon becomes clear with each passing mile, that something just isn’t right. What began as an awkward, yet innocent road trip ends up in a terrifying and brutal fight for survival that will change both women’s lives forever.
The Glorious Seven (Uncork’d Entertainment) – March 12th
Ex-military commander David Guerra is hired by a crooked millionaire to rescue his wife who was kidnapped by the leader of a guerrilla group. Guerra recruits six of his former special forces comrades to join him on this task. Outnumbered by their highly skilled opponents the seven start a seemingly hopeless and bloody mission, hoping they can pull off the unthinkable and somehow still survive.
Chimera Strain (Vertical Entertainment) – March 15th
Imagine a world without aging, injury, disease or death. Quint’s obsession with this utopian dream pushes him to the edge of his sanity. Rather than risk losing his dying children, Quint decides to freeze them alive, thereby preserving them in a cryonic ametabolic state. Meanwhile he feverishly researches genetic modifications that would give them the regenerative abilities of the “immortal” Turritopsis jellyfish. Quint’s experiments require human embryonic stem cells, and this sets him on a collision course with his Masterson, a shadowy figure, whose bizarre motives trigger a chain of events with far-reaching consequences.
Love Death and Robots (Netflix) – March 15th
This spring, 18 animated short stories presented by Tim Miller (Deadpool, upcoming untitled Terminator sequel) and David Fincher (MINDHUNTER, Gone Girl, House of Cards) land on Netflix in its first ever animated adult anthology series. The full roster of stories will cover a variety of adult topics including racism, government, war, free will, and human nature. The anthology collection spans the science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy genres and each short has a unique animation style: from traditional 2D to photo-real 3D CGI. The creators were assembled for a global calling for best in class animators from all over the world including artists from France, Korea, Hungary, Canada and the US among others. The series draws inspiration from the eclectic and provocative comic book material from the 1970's that influenced both Miller’s and Fincher’s formative interests in storytelling.
Big Kill (Cinedigm) – March 19th
After the death of his wife, Jim, the accountant, has come from the East to join his brother in business. Jake and Travis, two misfit rogues with one foot on each side of the law, have come from the south after being run out of Mexico under a hail of gunfire. What they find in the West is a wild ride, a fight for survival, and a moment of decision that will change them all forever.
Book of Monsters (Epic Pictures) – March 19th
BOOK OF MONSTERS began life as a Kickstarter campaign back in 2017 with a unique twist - backers could to vote on six key elements of the movie including what form the monsters would take and how they killed their victims! The result is a fun horror movie with buckets of gore and creepy monsters which have been brought to life with old-school practical effects and the participation of the audience.
Red Room (Breaking Glass Pictures) – March 19th
Kyra, a young woman kidnapped off the street after a night out, wakes up in an isolated house with two other captives. They are informed by their sadistic captors that they must wait their turn to enter the Room before they will be released. Once they discover they will never leave the house alive, they plot to escape before it is their turn to enter the Red Room.
She Wolf (Omnibus Entertainment/Film Movement) – March 19th
A female serial killer is stalking the shadowy streets and underground subways of Buenos Aires in SHE WOLF, a stark and atmospheric thriller from director Tamae Garateguy (Until You Untie Me, All Night Long). Capable of shifting between three manifestations of her inner self, this cunning seductress lures unwitting men to a night of unbridled ecstasy that ends in their blood-soaked demise. The trail of bodies she leaves behind threatens to lead the police to her door, but the titular she-wolf is so lost in her fractured psyche that the threat to her own safety barely seems to register. Smaller and Smaller Circles (Uncork’d Entertainment) – March 19th
Two Jesuit priests perform forensic work to solve the mystery revolving around the murders of young boys in one of Metro Manila's biggest slum areas. While dealing with the systematic corruption of the government, church and the elite, the two priests delve into criminal profiling, crime scene investigation and forensic analysis to solve the killings, and eventually, find the murderer.
The Field Guide to Evil (SuperLtd) – March 29th
In FIELD GUIDE, eight of the most exciting new voices in international horror were asked to draw upon the folklore of their country, reimagining a legend through their own unique (and often twisted) creative lens. White Chamber (Dark Sky Films) – March 29th
The United Kingdom in the near future. Civil war rages, and martial law has been declared by a military government hellbent on squashing the opposition.
