With the horror mystery elements of Riverdale being such a big hit for The CW, it seems like the stories of the Nancy Drew book series would be a perfect fit for the network, so it may come as no surprise that The CW has ordered Nancy Drew to series following their initial pilot order.

Starring Kennedy McMann as Nancy Drew and Freddie Prinze Jr. as her father, Nancy Drew has been picked up for the 2019-2020 season, as reported by numerous outlets, including Variety.

Based on the iconic sleuth character created by Edward Stratemeyer (and featured in a book series written by numerous authors under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene), The CW's Nancy Drew series is "set in the summer after Nancy’s high school graduation. She thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college, but when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation, and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined."

Writing and executive producing Nancy Drew are Noga Landau, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, with Lis Rowinski and Melinda Hsu Taylor also on board as executive producers and Larry Teng directing the pilot episode.

In addition to Nancy Drew, The CW is also moving forward with the Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene, co-written by Michael Grassi and Robert Aguirre-Sacasa (the developer of Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). It doesn't sound like Katy Keene will have as much of a horror-themed narrative as Riverdale or Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but with it being set in the same world as both series, you never know what eerie events might occur.

While the network also previously ordered a pilot episode for a potential The Lost Boys series, Variety reports that the pilot "will be re-shot off cycle."

Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates on all of The CW's horror-themed series, and let us know what new series you're looking forward to watching!
