Although Bruce Campbell may have retired Ash Williams' groovy chainsaw and trusty boomstick, he's still involved with the future of the Evil Dead franchise, and in a recent interview with Empire for their upcoming Heroes Issue, the iconic actor revealed that Sam Raimi has chosen Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) to write and direct a new Evil Dead, which is currently referred to as Evil Dead Now:

“We’re just getting off the phone with Lee Cronin, who is writing and directing the next Evil Dead. It’s called Evil Dead Now. Sam handpicked Lee – he did a cool movie called The Hole In The Ground. We’re going to get that sucker out as soon as practical.”

Campbell also told Empire that Evil Dead Now will not focus on Ash, but instead centers on a new group of heroines:

“From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating. You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic We jut want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”

There are no further details at this time, including whether or not the new Evil Dead will be linked to Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead that starred Jane Levy as Mia, but we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated as more information is revealed.

In addition to directing and co-writing The Hole in the Ground, Cronin helmed the "13 Steps to Hell" segment of Raimi's 50 States of Fright series on Quibi.
