Weekend Box Office Update

The Dark Knight Rises dominated the box office this weekend, earning more than the other top 9 films combined with $64 million. Step Up Revolution and The Watch were this week's new films and both underperformed.

The Step Up films have been opening progressively lower with each new installment, so this could be the last sequel in the dance series. As for The Watch, critic response was mostly negative and it seemed like an odd time to release this R-rated comedy, when it would be competing for ticket sales with Ted and bigger summer films.

Speaking of Ted, Seth MacFarlane's R-rated comedy continues to perform well for Universal and has nearly crossed the $200 million mark. That's not bad at all, considering it had a release date change and was produced for around $50 million. Next week sees the release of Total Recall and we're curious to see if it can take the top spot away from The Dark Knight Rises. Here are the top 10 results for this weekend:

1. The Dark Knight Rises - $64,075,000
2. Ice Age: Continental Drift - $13,300,000
3. The Watch - $13,000,000
4. Step Up Revolution - $11,800,000
5. Ted - $7,353,000
6. The Amazing Spider-Man - $6,800,000
7. Brave - $4,327,000
8. Magic Mike - $2,580,000
9. Savages - $1,753,000
10. Madea’s Witness Protection - $1,387,000
