Joe Carnahan to Write and Direct Undying Love?

In July 2011, Warner Bros. purchased film rights to Image Comics’ Undying Love. We haven't heard much about the project since earlier this year, when Alexandre Aja (Piranha/The Hills Have Eyes remakes) was in negotiations to direct the film. However, it is now being reported that The Grey director Joe Carnahan is coming on board to write and direct the adaptation.

The original script was written by Undying Love's creators, Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, but it is not known how much of it will be changed now that Carnahan is coming on board. Here's what he had to say about the project:

“I really took to it, and the metric I use is how fast I come up with ideas and an outline, and this brought about a bunch of ideas... It is a little out of my wheelhouse, taking place in China with mysticism and swordplay, but there is a lot of potential here.”

Joe Carnahan is currently looking at a number of projects after his success with The Grey and it is not guaranteed that this will be his next feature film. We'll be sure to update this story when Undying Love is officially moving forward. The 4-part limited comic book series was released in 2011, mixing vampires and Chinese monster mythology with Hong Kong action movies:
