Although Warner Bros. has been looking to start production on Akira as quickly as possible, they have another major setback. Deadline is reporting that director Albert Hughes has left the project, due to creative diferences. It is reported that the parting was amicable and that he'll be looking for another Warner Bros. project to direct.
This decision doesn't appear be stopping Warner Bros. from moving forward and they are now scrambling to find another director to helm the project. They are also in search of lead actors after Keanu Reeves passed on taking one of the lead roles. The plan was to begin production later this summer, but obviously both setbacks put everything into limbo. We'll report back as soon as we hear new director and casting news.
