Weekend Box Office Update

Green Lantern took the top spot this weekend, earning $52.6 million. Green Lantern is not well know to non-comic fans, but Warner Bros. was still hoping the movie would have a similar or bigger opening than Thor, which earned $65 million and did not have a major star in the lead role.

Super 8 continue to hold strong and has earned $72.7 million since opening last week. Considering it had a $50 million budget, Paramount must be pleased with its performance, and it looks like it has some staying power.

The major releases for next week include Cars 2 and Bad Teacher. Here is the full top 10 box office list for this weekend:
