With James Wan's current schedule, it didn't seem likely he'd return to direct Insidious Chapter 3, but it has been revealed that someone equally invested in the series will be taking over. James Wan teased late last month that they had found a director and he just announced over Twitter that Leigh Whannell will take over and make his directorial debut on Insidious Chapter 3.
Not only has Whannell collaborated with James Wan on multiple projects over the year, but he wrote the first two Insidious movies and had a role in them as Specs. He'll be both writing and directing Insidious Chapter 3, and it's likely he'll be back as Specs as well. After the announcement, Leigh Whannell shared the following over Twitter:
"I am really excited and I know I have giant shoes to fill. Let's do this... Watching [James Wan] work over the past decade has been the best film school for horror anyone could wish for!"
Insidious Chapter 3 will be released on April 3rd, 2015, so we should be getting casting news and plot information in the very near future. We'll keep Daily Dead readers posted on any developments.
