The Fault in Our Stars was the big winner at the US box office this weekend, easily taking down Maleficent and Edge of Tomorrow. The feature film adaptation of the young adult novel of the same name earned an impressive $48 million and carried a production budget of only $12 million.
In it's second weekend, Maleficent still performed pretty well, adding another $33 million to its total and surprisingly holding off Edge of Tomorrow. The latest movie from Tom Cruise has been getting some great reviews and audience reaction has been pretty positive as well, but Edge of Tomorrow failed to pull in the US numbers Warner Bros. was hoping for. With a production budget of $178 million the movie earned $29.1 million in the US and $111 million internationally.
Both X-Men: Day of Future Past and Godzilla are closing in on the $200 million mark in the US and they should be able to reach it by the end of next weekend. Next week sees the release of 22 Jump Street and How To Train Your Dragon 2. Both movies are expected to perform well, so we're curious to see how the top ten will shake out.
