Weekend Box Office Update

It started out as a close race, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles exceeded expectations and easily won the weekend at the US box office with an estimated $65 million. The movie carried a production budget of $165 million and Paramount is so happy with opening weekend performance that a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle sequel has already been announced for June 3rd, 2016.

In second place was Guardians of the Galaxy, which continues to perform extremely well at the box office. In its second weekend, it brought in $41.5 million and has earned $313 million worldwide since opening. New entries this weekend included Into the Storm with $18 million in third place, The Hundred-Foot Journey earning $11.1 million in fourth place, and Step Up All In making $6.5 million in sixth place.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is barely hanging in there at $4.4 million, but the movie should reach $200 million by the end of next weekend, as it currently it sits at $197.8 million. Next week sees the release of Let's Be Cops on Wednesday, followed by The Giver and The Expendables 3 on Friday. Here's a look at this weekend's top ten:
