April 10th is going to be a momentous day to be a cult genre fan, as we have a bevy of home media releases that folks are surely going to want to add to their Blu-ray and DVD collections. Arrow Video’s two-disc limited edition set for Dario Argento’s Deep Red looks absolutely incredible, and Scream Factory is keeping busy with a few releases of their own, including Larry Cohen’s Full Moon High, Crucible of Horror, and Superbeast. And as if all that wasn’t enough, Kino Classics is resurrecting The Psychopath in HD as well (which I personally cannot wait to revisit myself).

We also have several new genre-related movies coming our way, too: Ted Geoghegan’s Mohawk, My Friend Dahmer, Are We Not Cats, and Us & Them. Other notable releases for Tuesday, April 10th include Braven, Grindsploitation Trilogy, Disembodied and Enigma Rosso/Red Rings of Fear.

Crucible of Horror (Scream Factory, Blu-ray)

This horrifying film tells the story of Edith (Yvonne Mitchell, Nineteen Eighty-Four), a terrorized wife, who, along with her daughter, plots to kill her husband, Walter (Michael Gough, Batman, Sleepy Hollow), to end his abusive treatment of them. They poison him and make his death look like a suicide. But they didn’t count on one thing: Walter isn’t ready to die...

Deep Red: 2-Disc Limited Edition (Arrow Video, Blu-ray)

YOU WILL NEVER FORGET IT!!! From Dario Argento, maestro of the macabre and the man behind some of the greatest excursions in Italian horror (Suspiria, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage), comes Deep Red the ultimate giallo movie.

One night, musician Marcus Daly (David Hemmings, Blow Up), looking up from the street below, witnesses the brutal axe murder of a woman in her apartment. Racing to the scene, Marcus just manages to miss the perpetrator... or does he? As he takes on the role of amateur sleuth, Marcus finds himself ensnared in a bizarre web of murder and mystery where nothing is what it seems...

Aided by a throbbing score from regular Argento collaborators Goblin, Deep Red (aka Profondo Rosso and The Hatchet Murders) is a hallucinatory fever dream of a giallo punctuated by some of the most astonishing set-pieces the sub-genre has to offer.

Mohawk (Dark Sky Films, Blu-ray & DVD)

After a member of her tribe sets fire to an American soldiers' camp during the War of 1812, a young female Mohawk finds herself pursued by a ruthless band of renegades bent on revenge. Fleeing into the deep woods, Mohawk youths Oak (Kaniehtiio Horn, Hemlock Grove) and Calvin (Justin Rain, Fear the Walking Dead), along with their British companion Joshua (Eamon Farren, Twin Peaks: The Return), confront the true horrors of war and the terror of the darkest night as they're hunted by the bloodthirsty Colonel Holt (Ezra Buzzington, The Hills Have Eyes) and his small army of soldiers. As the Americans seem to close in from all sides, leaving a massacred trail of destruction behind them, the trio must use every resource available to stave off brutal execution at the hands of the sadistic soldiers. But the warrior spirit is strong in Oak and, before the sun rises, her pursuers will discover the full power of a righteous spirit unleashed.

My Friend Dahmer (Filmrise, Blu-ray & DVD)

Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys in the Midwest United States between 1978 and 1991 before being captured and incarcerated. He would become one of America's most infamous serial killers. This is the story before that story. Jeff Dahmer (Disney Channel's Ross Lynch) is an awkward teenager struggling to make it through high school with a family life in ruins. He collects roadkill, fixates on a neighborhood jogger (Vincent Kartheiser, "Mad Men"), and copes with his unstable mother (Anne Heche) and well-intentioned father (Dallas Roberts). He begins to act out at school, and his goofball antics win over a group of band-nerds who form The Dahmer Fan Club, headed by Derf Backderf (Alex Wolff, "Patriots Day"). But this camaraderie can't mask his growing depravity. Approaching graduation, Jeff spirals further out of control, inching ever closer to madness.

The Psychopath (Kino Classics, Blu-ray)

Brand New 4K Restoration! Legendary horror director and 2-time Academy Award®-winning cinematographer Freddie Francis (The Skull, Tales from the Crypt) directed this classic Amicus chiller which is filled with surprises and keeps its viewers on the edge of their seats. With a serial killer on the loose, Police Inspector Halloway (Patrick Wymark, Where Eagles Dare, Repulsion) investigates a pattern of grisly murders whose perpetrator leaves a small doll by the body of each victim. The four victims are all brutally murdered in different grotesque ways… a knife, a blow-torch, a rope and a car. The case leads Halloway to disabled doll collector Mrs. Von Sturm (Margaret Johnston, Burn, Witch, Burn) who knows a set of dark secrets that may hold the key to the shocking truth. Beautifully shot in Scope by John Wilcox (The Evil of Frankenstein) with a screenplay by Robert Bloch (Psycho) and co-starring John Standing (The Legacy), Alexander Knox (Woman of Straw) and the lovely Judy Huxtable (Scream and Scream Again).
