Bill Condon recently brought an iconic creature to life on the big screen in the live-action Beauty and the Beast movie, and with that film passing the $1 billion milestone at the global box office, the filmmaker could be entering the world of Universal Monsters for his next project.

Deadline reports that Condon is in "early talks" to direct a new Bride of Frankenstein movie for Universal Pictures.

No official deal has been made, but Deadline reveals that both sides are "excited" about teaming up for the film, which would join the upcoming The Mummy (hitting theaters June 9th), the in-the-works Creature from the Black Lagoon, and other projects (including one on Van Helsing) that are part of the revamped Universal Monsters shared cinematic world.

It's also worth noting that The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) is one of Condon's most-loved classic monster films, according to Deadline. The original film starred Elsa Lanchester as The Monster's Bride and Boris Karloff as The Monster.

Condon is no stranger to the horror genre, having helmed Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2, and Gods and Monsters, which stars Ian McKellen as Frankenstein (1931) director James Whale, who also directed The Bride of Frankenstein.

Alex Kurtzman (director of The Mummy) and Chris Morgan are resurrecting the new Universal Monsters world and will executive produce the new Bride of Frankenstein film, with David Koepp (co-writer of Death Becomes Her and Jurassic Park) penning the screenplay.

No official casting details have been revealed yet. Variety reported back in 2015 that Universal was interested in having Angelina Jolie star in the new Bride of Frankenstein (although that was also back when they were eyeing her for the director's chair as well), but no deal was ever finalized.

We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed. Would you like to see Condon resurrect the love interest of Frankenstein's monster? Who would you like to see play The Bride?
