The 30th anniversary of Aliens is approaching faster than Xenomorphs scampering through the ceiling, and to make sure the iconic film gets the celebration it deserves, 20th Century Fox has announced a 30th anniversary Blu-ray and Aliens Comic-Con reunion panel featuring James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, and more.
EW reports that on Saturday, July 23rd in Hall H at Comic-Con, an Aliens Q&A panel will take place to honor the film hitting the three-decade mark. Cameron, Weaver, and Biehn will be joined by Gale Anne Hurd, Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reiser, and Carrie Henn on the reflective panel.
The celebration will continue in the fall when Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment releases a special Aliens 30th anniversary Blu-ray (with Digital HD). While the special edition release won't hit shelves until September 13th, fans can pre-order the Blu-ray at Fox's Comic-Con booth, and the first 250 people to pre-order will receive a lithographic print of Ripley and the Alien Queen.
According to EW, the anniversary Blu-ray will feature the theatrical cut and a special version that delves further into Ripley's history and her child. Deleted and extended scenes from the previous Blu-ray release will also be included, along with a commentary track, art cards with Cameron's concept drawings, and an art book featuring images from the Aliens Dark Horse comic book series.
With Sigourney Weaver expected to reprise her role as Ripley in Neill Blomkamp's upcoming Alien movie, which would be a direct sequel to Aliens, the actress told EW a bit about the timeline of the anticipated film, which would avoid following the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection:
“It’s just as if, you know, the path forks and one direction goes off to three and four and another direction goes off to Neill’s movie."
We'll be sure to keep readers updated on further details, including live coverage from Comic-Con in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, we have images of the 30th anniversary Aliens Blu-ray (via EW):
