Today is a great day for Spawn fans. After years of Todd McFarlane working on getting a new Spawn movie off the ground, he dropped a major bombshell during Comic-Con, revealing that he's teaming up with Blumhouse Productions for an R-rated take on the character.

"We just signed [Blumhouse] yesterday. The ink has just dried... we're now making movies. Blumhouse. Spawn. Badass. R(rated). No more talking, it's time to do."

The announcement was only a minute and made over Facebook Live, so we have plenty of questions. That said, we know from previous comments that McFarlane has written the script and was only interested in moving forward with a new film if he was able to direct, write, and produce:

via SYFY Wire: "The first rough (draft) has been finished for months... I write, produce, direct.. non-negotiable. I wouldn't ask to be a newbie director on a script that has an $80 million dollar budget. I've created this tight little (script) that I can shoot for $10 (million)."

We'll be sure to share more details as they come in. In the meantime, keep an eye on our Comic-Con 2017 coverage hub for the latest news from San Diego.
