Still shrouded in secrecy, the third Cloverfield movie, also known as God Particle (although that title is not official), was recently given a new April release date from Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions, and in a new interview with Collider, actor Daniel Brühl commented briefly on the outer space setting of the new movie.

Speaking with Collider, Brühl didn't give away any major plot details for the new Cloverfield movie, but he did discuss researching to prepare for the space station setting and how the movie is based on a "near-future scenario":

"I went to UCLA and I met some very brilliant students and scientists there. It was only 2% of the information that I was given by them that I remotely understood. It’s based on many interesting ideas about a near future scenario, which is an interesting vision of what could happen or what might happen with the Earth. I’m bit scared to talk about it because it’s so extremely secretive. I’m afraid of ending up in a Bad Robot prison."

Brühl also shared his enthusiasm for playing an astronaut on film, saying:

"I’ve always wanted to do a space movie, so I couldn’t wait to end up floating in space and solving huge problems."

According to Variety, the new Cloverfield movie, directed by Julius Onah, "is set in the near future and tells the story of a team of astronauts on a space station who make a terrifying discovery involving a new energy source—the “God Particle”—and their desperate fight for survival."

Like Dan Trachtenberg's secretive 10 Cloverfield Lane, which shocked viewers with a surprise trailer and subsequent theatrical release in 2016, the new film in the franchise is not expected to be a direct sequel to the found footage monster movie Cloverfield, but will instead take place in the same cinematic world of Matt Reeves' 2008 film.

In addition to Brühl, the new movie also stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, Elizabeth Debicki, and Zhang Ziyi.

Also due out in 2018 is Overlord, another film from Abrams' Bad Robot entertainment company that is speculated to be the fourth entry in the Cloverfield cinematic universe. Taking place just before World War II's D-Day, Overlord is currently slated for an October 26th, 2018 release, but we'll have to see if that release date changes following the calendar switch for God Particle.

We'll keep you updated on more details as they are revealed, and with an April 20th release date, it's only a matter of time before we know a lot more about the third entry in the Cloverfield franchise that kicked off ten years ago. In the meantime, are you looking forward to seeing a third Cloverfield movie? Let us know in the comments section below, and head over to Collider for the full interview with Brühl.
