Daniel Stamm has been tapped to direct the American remake of Martyrs. Stamm recently directed The Last Exorcism and is also directing M. Night Shyamalan's Reincarnate, which still appears to be the project he will be directing first.

For those that haven't seen the original, Martyrs "...tells of Lucie and Anna, orphans who establish a friendship, until one of them inexplicably goes on a murderous rampage to avenge what may or may not have been earlier incidents of child abuse."

The original Martyrs was released in 2008 and even if this remake is well done, look at what happened with Let Me In. It was well received critically, but the movie's target audience already had seen and loved the original. It will require a different take on the original and/or a movie that is made for a wider audience to be successful at the box office. I'll be curious to see how they decide to tackle the material.
