Only one episode into its first season, Swamp Thing has been canceled by the streaming service DC Universe.

Multiple outlets, including Deadline and Entertainment Weekly, report that DC Universe has decided not to move forward with Swamp Thing, which premiered on the streaming service on Friday, May 31st.

Warner Bros. has not officially commented on the cancellation, but Deadline reports that the streaming service is being "reevaluated" following the "AT&T acquisition of Time Warner."

Back in April, StarNews reported that the show's previously planned 13-episode first season had been cut down to 10.

At this point, it looks like a new episode of Swamp Thing will continue to be released every Friday until this season comes to an end. Time will tell if the series can find a home at a different streaming service or network, and we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed.

Based on the iconic character from the brilliant minds of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, the new Swamp Thing series is executive produced by James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear, and Len Wiseman.

The series stars Derek Mears (2009's Friday the 13th) as the titular character, with Andy Bean playing Alec Holland, the human version of Swamp Thing. The cast also includes Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, Henderson Wade, Kevin Durand, Andy Bean, Crystal Reed, Jeryl Prescott, Maria Sten, and Ian Ziering.

In addition to executive producing the series, Verheiden and Dauberman co-wrote the first episode, which is directed by Wiseman. Here's the official synopsis:

"SWAMP THING follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe."

No stranger to the screen, Wein and Wrightson's Swamp Thing character was the subject of the aforementioned 1982 movie of the same name, as well as 1989's The Return of Swamp Thing and the live-action television show Swamp Thing: The Series (that ran from 1990-1993 on the USA Network), with Dick Durock playing the titular character in all three projects.
