While Dead Island 2 appeared to be pretty far along in development, its release was recently pushed back to 2016. Now, publisher Deep Silver has issued a statement to us regarding the state of development, confirming that they have parted ways with Dead Island 2 developer, Yager:

"With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve.

After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER.

We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage."

It was a long road to development for the original Dead Island, with Techland having originally announced the first game in 2007 and releasing it in 2011. There's no word yet on who's stepping in to finish development on Dead Island 2, but we'll keep readers posted on any developments.
