With Dexter's fifth season wrapping up on December 12th, news comes that Showtime will be announcing a season six renewal this month. This should come as no surprise, not just because of the ratings hike the show has received this season, but because of the direction the show has taken.

Unlike season four, the fifth season really appears to be a transitional season, introducing multiple new characters and plot lines which can't possibly be wrapped up in the next two episodes. I'll be interested in seeing how many seasons Dexter ends up with, because at this pace they could keep on going for quite some time. The introduction of new characters and new issues in Dexter's life has kept the show fresh and I'm looking forward to seeing how this will all wrap up.
