It has been revealed that Eddie Izzard has joined the cast of NBC's upcoming Hannibal TV series and we have details on his role in the show. According to EW, he'll play an inmate claiming to be the Chesapeake Ripper at the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

This is being described as a guest star role, although there is no mention of how many episodes we'll see Izzard in, so it's quite possible we could see him throughout the season. The Baltimore State Hospital is the same location that eventually becomes the home of Hannibal Lecter, although the series starts out before the events of Silence of the Lambs.

Hannibal stars Casino Royale‘s Mad Mikkelsen as the infamous cannibal, along with Hugh Dancy as Agent Will Graham, and Laurence Fishburne as Agent Jack Crawford, who is in charge of the Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI and will eventually be responsible for tracking down Hannibal Lecter.

The series has skipped the usual pilot process and NBC has ordered 13 episodes for the first season, with a planned premiere early next year. If you'd like to see the first photos from Hannibal, visit our recent coverage at: http://dailydead.com/first-photos-from-hannibal-tv-series/
