We have our first casting news for Mockingbird Lane, the upcoming reboot of The Munsters TV series. According to Deadline, Eddie Izzard is in final negotiations to star in and produce the show. He will be playing the role of Grandpa, who is described as:

"...a powerful, ancient vampire with an irrepressible twinkle in his eye. He can shapeshift into rats, wolves, and other creatures at will, but he’s also dapper and charming in a fedora; he is a Don Juan-type womanized with penchant for flashy, sexy outfits."

As you can tell from the character description, this version of The Munsters is going to play differently from the original. The new series has been created for NBC by Bryan Fuller, with Bryan Singer (X-Men, The Usual Suspects) being involved as an executive producer and director of the pilot episode. Production of the pilot is expected in June, so keep an eye out for additional casting updates over the coming weeks.
