Last year we shared the exciting news that comiXology Originals was taking readers into the blood-soaked early  years of Vlad the Impaler with their digital graphic novel Dracula: Son of the Dragon, and we're thrilled to exclusively announce that Dark Horse Comics will publish Dracula: Son of the Dragon in print for the first time ever next year!

As part of their print program with comiXology, Dark Horse Comics will release Dracula: Son of the Dragon in bookstores on September 7th and comic shops on September 8th, bringing its 112-page blood-soaked story to shelves as a special treat for readers just in time for the Halloween season!

A collaboration between creator-owned comic book writer Mark Sable (Grounded, Graveyard of Empires, Godkillers, The Dark, and the upcoming Miskatonic) and prolific artist Salgood Sam aka Max Douglas (who previously worked with Sable on a short story adaptation of a Tori Amos song for the Eisner Award-winning anthology Comic Book Tattoo), Dracula: Son of the Dragon blends historical fiction and horror fantasy into a twisted coming-of-age tale about Vlad the Impaler's journey to becoming the dreaded, bloodsucking Dracula:

"How did 15th century ruler Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler, Vlad Drucul), the so-called “historical Dracula,” become the world’s most notorious vampire? As an adolescent in Wallachia, young Prince Vlad learns hard lessons in politics and betrayal and is held prisoner of the Ottoman Turks after being introduced to the Dark Arts at the infamous Scholomance in Transylvania. To survive he believes he must kill in the name of God in order to serve the Holy Roman Order of The Dragon—a very secret—but very real —society both Vlad and his father were members of—but at what cost?"

"I've been thrilled at the reception Dracula: Son of the Dragon has received digitally through Comixology Originals," Sable shared with Daily Dead. "I'm beyond excited that thanks to Dark Horse, Dracula will be bound in blood for horror and historical fiction fans...just in time for Halloween."

We have the official cover art below, and to pre-order a print copy of Dracula: Son of the Dragon for yourself or for the horror lover in your life, be sure to visit Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and when it's safe, your local comic shop!
