Fright Night 2: New Blood was released earlier this week on Blu-ray and DVD. Wrapping up our exclusive coverage of the new movie, we have a chat with director Eduardo Rodriguez, who talks about creative changes, casting Jaime Murray, and the possibility of a sequel.

Eduardo revealed that it was his idea to change Jerry to Gerri:

“Jerry was still going to be a male vampire [in the new movie], so that change was one of my suggestions and they really liked it. I wanted to take a female approach to the whole vampire thing and make it more fun and gorier. I think it’s what I love about the original movie... the comedy aspect it had and the gore. I wanted to play with those elements and do something a little different.”

Why Jaime Murray was perfect for the role:

"We had a list of five actresses we wanted to approach and Jaime was always on the top of the list for Gerri. I thought we needed that strong female presence. She needed to be hot and sexy, but she needed to feel like a strong threat. It’s tricky to find an actress that could pull off both aspects."

Filming in Romania:

"It was my first time there and it was amazing. The people were super nice and always willing to collaborate. The production designers and costume designers were incredible, and it was a great experience working with those guys. It was a really good decision to go Romania because we didn’t have to build a lot of sets.  The production value you get from going to Romania was incredible. We couldn’t afford to build a castle and a CG castle wouldn’t be as good as the real deal, so it helped a lot."

Will he return for a sequel?:

"I would love to. When I got the script, I felt that it was important to balance the horror and the comedy, and it was a really great experience. It was a pleasure to work with the actors and I’ll definitely come back to revisit if it I can."

“By day Gerri Dandridge is a sexy professor, but by night she transforms into a real-life vampire with an unquenchable thirst for human blood. So when a group of high school students travel abroad to study in Romania, they find themselves ensnared in Gerri’s chilling web of lust and terror. Charley and “Evil” Ed must stop Gerri from drinking and bathing in the blood of a “new moon virgin,” which just so happens to be Charley’s ex-girlfriend, Amy. They enlist help from Peter Vincent, the vampire hunting host of a reality show called “Fright Night,” to drive a stake through Gerri’s plan and save Amy from a fate far worse than death.”
