"There are over 4 million podcasts online… but this will be the last one you hear." Last month, Daily Dead was thrilled and chilled to chat with Jeremy Haun (The Beauty) and Mike Tisserand (The Dragon Prince) about the successful Kickstarter for their new comic book The Cold Open, which serves as the eerie introduction into the world of their ominous new comic book series Murder Podcast.

Now, with San Diego Comic-Con just a little over one month away, we're excited to exclusively share that, as part of Ignition Press' aptly titled "Ignition Sequence: SDCC" countdown to their anticipated launch at Comic-Con, Murder Podcast will be the first comic book series released by Ignition Press, with the first of its eight issues slated to haunt readers beginning September 4th. Copies of Murder Podcast #1 will be available to pre-order on Penguin Random House Publisher Services (PRHPS), and solicitation information will be available beginning this Friday, June 20th.

We have the official press release with additional details below, and we also have a look at the chilling open-to-order covers for Murder Podcast #1 by Haun and Tisserand, respectively, along with a limited edition variant by illustrator and sculptor Ebrahel Lurci, giving readers a glimpse into the blood-splattered horrors of the true crime podcast that becomes downright deadly to its listeners!

Press Release: Los Angeles, CA (June 17th, 2025) –Ignition Press proudly announced today that the first comic series in its upcoming 2025 publishing slate will be the true crime, modern horror thriller Murder Podcast by Jeremy Haun (The Beauty, The Red Mother) and Mike Tisserand (The Dragon Prince, Diary of a Wimpy Kid).

Fans of true crime podcasts are noticing brand-new episodes of a show they thought was over appearing in their feed, but when they cue up the first episode, they find themselves overtaken by a murderous urge. One that only stops when the killer is stopped, leaving a gruesome death toll in its wake. For Mina and her friends, these killings are just another topic of their daily gossip, a potential new case for the next true crime show they can’t get enough of. Yet, as the killings get closer and closer to their own lives, it’s becoming clear that there is more going on below the surface than any of them realizes.

“I love horror. Plain and simple. Growing up I was terrified of all those VHS tape covers in the horror section of the local video store. That fear led to fascination...and maybe a little obsession with the genre. I've spent most of my writing career telling my own horror stories, just hoping to feel a bit of that childhood fear again,” said co-creator and writer Jeremy Haun. “Murder Podcast is the perfect example of that. It takes a look at our culture's obsession with true crime and then turns it on its head. It's been a joy of a project—maybe my favorite thing that I've written. Telling this story with artist Mike Tisserand has been an absolute, horrific joy—a bloody good time.”

Written by Jeremy Haun, co-creator of The Beauty, soon to be a prestige FX television series from Ryan Murphy, with art by animation veteran and comics’ next superstar Mike Tisserand, colors by Nick Filardi, and letters by AndWorld Design, this debut Ignition Press title will make you think twice the next time you fire up those ear buds and press play on your phone.

“I can’t think of another book on the shelf that hits like Murder Podcast,” added co-creator and artist Mike Tisserand. “The cast, the story, the tone, and the tension all roll into a bloody, horrific mess for one's viewing pleasure. It’s a treat!”

Murder Podcast #1 will feature two open-to-order covers by Haun and Tisserand respectively, with the latter forming a connecting image across multiple covers. Additionally, retail partners will have access to a limited-edition variant by illustrator and sculptor Ebrahel Lurci (The Solstice of Shadows, St range, Very Strange). The true crime horror series is slated for eight issues with the first issue releasing on September 4, 2025. Copies of Murder Podcast #1 will be available for order through Penguin Random House Publisher Services (PRHPS).

“Horror is only truly scary when you care about the people who are being terrorized. The threat matters more when you don’t want them to fall prey to it,” explained Ignition Press Editor-in-Chief Jamie S. Rich. “What Jeremy and Mike are doing in Murder Podcast that makes it so special is that they are building a living, breathing cast within the larger mystery. The scenes with the ladies hanging out and talking about their lives are just as engaging as the violence and the frightening stuff. That makes for a reading experience that is far more meaningful than just a by numbers slasher. There’s so much more to uncover.”
