As the guitarist for Fall Out Boy, Joe Trohman has been entertaining millions of people for decades, and now he's also channeling that creative energy into the world of comic books with his new series The Axe. Co-written by Joe Trohman and actor/comedian Brian Posehn and illustrated by Scott Koblish, The Axe continues with its third chapter in issue #317 of Heavy Metal Magazine (which is now available), and we've been provided with exclusive preview pages to share with Daily Dead readers!

Following a group of teenage metalheads on a journey into a hellscape brimming with deadly creatures, The Axe will contain six chapters overall, with the final chapter being released in August's Heavy Metal Magazine #320 ahead of its eventual release as a comic book series and then a trade paperback collection. Additionally, a screen adaptation of The Axe is in development at Heavy Metal.

Providing further insights into their new comic book series, we have comments from co-creators Joe Trohman and Brian Posehn about the making of their gloriously gory and hellishly heartfelt horror comedy.

Here's what Joe Trohman had to say about the multi-dimensional story of The Axe:

"The Axe merges two of my favorite things—horror and comedy—but it has heart. We intentionally wove in themes of broken childhood, abandonment, and coming-of-age throughout the book, and I am proud of the dimensions within this story. But on the fun side, what we were able to do with pushing the gore, the jokes, the darkness, it's just everything I've really wanted to do on a wish-fulfillment level. I am really, truly grateful that Heavy Metal wanted to take a swing on this one. I am thrilled to see it come to life on the page."

Brian Posehn discussed the amazing art team behind The Axe, including Scott Koblish and colorist Diego Fichera:

“It’s been a breeze working with Scott Koblish. He was the obvious guy to draw this and he’s killing it. Joe is my pal and even though there is a big age difference we share a brain and it’s nothing but fun to throw around ideas and make each other laugh. Our colorist Diego Fichera is turning our f***** up little book into a thing of beauty. Every page pops.”

Sharing that same excitement, Trohman commented on what it's been like co-writing The Axe with Posehn, who is one of his best friends:

“Brian is one of my best friends and we write a lot together. He's incredible: his stand-up, his writing, his face, his height. Plus, he’s got a special brain. I knew I wanted him to write The Axe with me. And then with Heavy Metal, working with Matthew Medney and Morgan Rosenblum has been the ultimate pleasure. They are smart as hell and really easy to work with. Couldn't have a better crew on this.”
