Fifth THE PURGE Film Gets July 10th, 2020 Release Date

Bolt your doors, lock your windows, and make sure your security system still works, because another 12-hour period where all crime—including murder—is legal is coming to theaters in 2020.

Multiple sources, including Variety, report that the fifth movie in The Purge franchise (currently is slated for a July 10th, 2020 release date from Universal Pictures, the same day that Sony's new Ghostbusters film haunts theaters.

James DeMonaco, writer of the first four Purge films and director of the first three movies, is once again writing the screenplay for the fifth film, although a director has yet to be announced.

Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions is also back as producer, along with Man in a Tree's DeMonaco and Sebastien Lemercier, as well as Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form.

Plot details have yet to be announced, but as mentioned on Bloody Disgusting, DeMonaco previously told Entertainment Weekly that the fifth Purge film could be the final one:

“I have it in my head. I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home.”

In addition to The Purge film series (which began in 2013), The Purge TV series was previously renewed for a second season on the USA Network.
