Holiday Horror Gift Guide

There are always certain people, like myself, that are difficult to buy gifts for. Either they purchase what they are interested in as soon as it is released, or they don’t really have a need for traditional gifts.

If you are looking for a gift for a horror fan this year, there are some great items that have been released and we wanted to suggest some of the better and unique gifts available.

Movies

So many great Blu-rays and DVDs are available for $19.99 to as low as $7.99 on Amazon. Here are some of the available new releases:

-Return of the Living Dead (Blu/DVD)

-The Exorcist (Blu)

-Psycho (Blu)

-Vampire Circus (Blu/DVD)

Our featured movie item for this holiday season is the Alien Anthology on Blu-ray, which includes all 4 films, a director’s cut versions of the first 2 films, deleted scenes, and much more. It is currently selling for $69.99 on Amazon, half the original price.

Television

-Thriller (DVD): The classic Boris Karloff-hosted show finally makes its way onto DVD.

-Supernatural Seasons 1-5 (Blu/DVD): Follow the Winchester brothers to hell and back in seasons 1-5 of Supernatural. This is one of the better horror shows available and is great for anyone interested in pulp horror or american urban legends.

Our featured television item for the holiday season is The Twilight Zone Seasons 1 and 2 (Blu-ray). The first two seasons are currently available and look absolutely stunning. They are a bit pricey, but if you are or know a die-hard fan, seeing these classic episodes in high-definition is a must!

Games

There were three major horror console releases this year worth picking up:

-Alan Wake (Xbox 360)

-Dead Rising 2 (Xbox 360/PS3)

-Splatterhouse (Xbox 360/PS3)

All three games have different audiences. If you like slow psychological horror, go with Alan Wake. If you are looking for something more fun and want to take your frustration out on hundreds of zombies, try Dead Rising 2. Splatterhouse was just released and offers gory button mashing, monster killing fun.

Books

There are plenty of graphic novels released this year, along with book by Stephen King and Guillermo del Toro. For the serious horror fan, though, we're just going to skip to the chase and suggest the recently released Art of Hammer. There are pages and pages of fantastic artwork in this book from decades worth of Hammer releases, including The Horror of Dracula, The Evil of Frankenstein, One Million Years B.C., and many others.

Apparel

If you want to purchase unique and high quality horror apparel, look no further than Fright Rags. They feature over 50 uniquely created designs from popular horror movies such as The Shining and The Thing, to lesser known classics like Night of the Creeps and Prince of Darkness.

Statues

Earlier today, we covered a Sideshow Collectibles premium format release of Jason from Friday the 13th Part III, but it is only available as a pre-order. If you are looking to purchase a statue that will be available in time for the holidays, we have one suggestion for you: The Sideshow Collectibles Terror of Crystal Lake Polystone Statue

And that wraps up this year's buying guide. There are plenty of other buying guides and suggestions out there, so we wanted to try to point out either the best of the best or a unique item you may not have realized was available. Hopefully, we were able to suggest something that you or your family will enjoy as a gift this holiday season.
