THE POWER OF THE STRIKE: "One totally f***ed up night in a bowling alley."
Director's statement: "That's a kinda impossible movie to shoot (with almost no money, in Berlin, where I knew just a few people before the filming started, and on post-production from all over the world) stemmed from such a strong desire to make something with my friends and a bunch of crazy enthusiasts, to celebrate my favorite punk rock filmmakers (oh, hi, George A. Romero, Gregg Araki, James Wan, Leigh Whannell, NWR, Joe Begos, Panos Kosmatos, Carter Smith as my mentor, for sure, and many more), and to talk about the queer perspective on thriller and horror genres, and on the nowadays ultra-right bullshit increasing. Yes, we all need to get this perspective more and more times!
Hope that absolute gay, fun, and gory ride will find its place on this very mad planet and in the true queer horror comedy fans' hearts. And then I'll get the opportunity to extend this chaos to an amazing, shocking feature film!"

WHAT KIND OF MOTHER Paperback Release: "A “profoundly unsettling” New York Times Book Review Best Horror Book of 2023, now in paperback!"
"Clay McLeod Chapman has earned a reputation as “one of horror’s modern masters” (Rachel Harrison, Such Sharp Teeth) and “the real deal” when it comes to “high-grade horror” (Gabino Iglesias, The Devil Takes You Home) with his novels The Remaking, Whisper Down the Lane, and the “legitimately terrifying” Ghost Eaters (Vulture). Now, Chapman’s acclaimed fourth novel, What Kind of Mother (Quirk Books; On sale: June 6, 2024; $16.99), a “tremendous, heartbreaking work of dark fiction” (Ronald Malfi, Come with Me) that blends domestic suspense, supernatural horror, and parental grief into a Southern Gothic horror, is available in paperback.
The last thing Madi Price ever wanted to do was return to her hometown of Brandywine, Virginia. But seventeen years after leaving with her infant daughter, Kendra, Madi is forced to return after Kendra decides to move in with her previously estranged father. Now Madi finds herself living out of a run-down motel room, where she makes ends meet as a palm reader in between telling fortunes at her local farmers market. One Sunday, Madi sees her old high school flame, Henry McCabe, now a reclusive local fisherman. She learns from the gossipy “biddies of Brandywine” that Henry lost his wife, Grace, to suicide five years ago, and that his eight-month-old son, Skyler, went missing on the same day. Most people believe Skyler is dead—possibly at the hands of Grace or Henry—but Henry has devoted his life to searching for his son.
Despite her reluctance, Madi agrees to give Henry a reading, but when she looks at Henry’s river-beaten palm, disturbing visions of rushing water and a dilapidated duck blind take over her mind’s eye, suffocating and overwhelming her senses. Surprised by this genuine vision, Madi finds herself drawn into the search for Skyler, while continuing to have terrifying visions that seem to be drawing her closer to the truth—and to Henry. She knows she shouldn’t get too invested, but an incredible discovery turns her world upside down—and plunges her, Henry, and Kendra into a living nightmare.
Chapman brilliantly lures readers into the brackish throes of this visceral and emotional tale about the horrifying powers of parenthood, set against the vivid backdrop of the Chesapeake Bay. Solidifying his status as “the twenty-first century’s Richard Matheson” (Richard Chizmar, Chasing the Boogeyman), Chapman’s most “disorienting, immersive, and thought-provoking” novel yet (Library Journal) is a perfect paperback beach read or book club pick."
