MACABRE: "Macabre is an upcoming indie horror short written and directed by YouTube creator, Zack Cherry, and award-winning filmmaker, Erik Champney. Based on an original concept, the movie is set to combine story elements of late 90s slashers with the stylings of Italian giallo films from the 70s and 80s.
The story of Macabre follows two women working in an art gallery after hours, only to be visited by an uninvited guest with a twisted flare for the arts and a nefarious agenda.
As a short film, Macabre will become a cinematic presentation to showcase Zack & Erik’s unique filmmaking vision, and ultimately serve to pitch the idea as a feature-length movie. In that regard, this project doubles as both a stand-alone short, as well as the prologue to a much larger murder mystery.
In essence, the project to which you are contributing is an ode to the larger-than-life opening scenes that populate many memorable films of the horror genre. Think Suspiria, Halloween, When a Stranger Calls, and Scream. The mission with Macabre is to create an operatic and grandiose setpiece that is inspired by Zack & Erik’s love for retro slashers and giallo films, with directors such as Wes Craven and Dario Argento as their primary influences.
This project needs the support of likeminded horror fans in order to maintain the excellence of quality the genre can achieve. Macabre is now funding on Kickstarter and has already reached 29% of its goal, but it still has a long way to go before its campaign deadline on September 6th.
