FrightFest Weekend 16-Film Marathon: Press Release: "To celebrate Halloween, there is a FrightFest Weekend special, a marathon of cinematic scares featuring sixteen of the best films from previous FrightFest events - including the UK TV premieres of V/H/S, a terrifying anthology pushing the genre in a fresh direction and Vincenzo Natali’s HAUNTER, where ‘Groundhog Day’ meets ‘The Others' in a chilling reverse ghost story. Also included are the network premieres of Tomas Alfredison’s remarkably moving and genuinely frightening vampire tale LET THE RIGHT ONE IN and FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY, Richard Raaphorst’s inventive freak show of gore, guts, and gunplay.

The weekend season is Fri 28 Oct – Mon 31 Oct, 9 p.m. onwards and this is the full line-up:

Fri 28 Oct @ 21:00 – DONNIE DARKO (2001)

Fri 28 Oct @ 23:10 – FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY (2013) *Network Premiere

In the waning days of World War II, a battalion of Russian soldiers finds themselves lost in eastern German enemy territory. Stumbling upon a village decimated by an unseen terror, they discover a secret Nazi laboratory and a mad scientist conducting experiments using the journal of one Dr. Victor Frankenstein to fuse flesh and steel to create unstoppable undead soldiers. This is historical HOSTEL on Hammer Horror steroids, cyberpunk by way of classic Universal monster mayhem.

Fri 28 Oct @ 00:50 – 2001 MANIACS (2005)

Fri 28 Oct @ 02:30 – DEADHEADS (2011)

Sat 29 Oct @ 21:00 – HAUNTER (2013) *UK TV PREMIERE

True to the form of CUBE, CYPHER and SPLICE, director Vincenzo Natali’s spooky tale of vintage murders, time travel, and clear boundaries between the living and the dead is impeccably constructed and tightly focused with a strikingly good performance from Abigail Breslin. She plays Lisa Johnson, a teenager, who along with her family are deceased, doomed to repeat the fateful last day before they were all killed by the Haunter in 1985.  Only Lisa has ‘woken up’. It’s the present day and the serial-killing Haunter is closing in again.

Sat 29 Oct @ 22:55 – I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (2010)

Sat 29 Oct @ 01:00 – WRONG TURN 4: BLOODY BEGINNINGS (2011)

Sat 29 Oct @ 01:50 – OLDBOY (2003)

Sun 30 Oct @ 21:00 – F (2010)

Sun 30 Oct @ 22:35 – LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008) *Network Premiere

Tomas Alfredson’s stunningly directed juvenile vampire saga charts the budding friendship between bullied loner Oskar and angelic Eli, his new neighbour. But Eli requires freshly tapped human blood to survive and Oskar might just be the person to replace her aging guardian… Alfredson’s subtle masterpiece is a remarkable evocation of childhood terrors, fantasies, and frailties and has taken its place among the classics of the vampire genre.

Sun 30 Oct @ 00:45 – I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE 2 (2013)

Sun 30 Oct @ 02:45 – THE VICTIM (2011)

Mon 31 Oct @ 21:00 – UNDER THE BED (2012)

Mon 31 Oct @ 22:45 – V/H/S (2012) *UK TV Premiere

Six bizarre tapes: Six horrific stories: Six acclaimed directors. When a group of sleazy misfits is hired by an unknown third party to burgle a desolate house and acquire a rare VHS, they discover more found footage than they bargained. A gruesome and twisted blast of sickness from the collective minds of Adam Wingard, Glenn McQuaid, Radio Silence, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg, and Ti West.

Mon 31 Oct @ 01:00 – HATCHET 2 (2010)

Mon 31 Oct @ 02:40 – BANSHEE CHAPTER (2013)

There are also a further six prime-time film premieres this month, including the network premieres of John Carpenter’s timely sci-fi political thriller THEY LIVE, James Watkins’ gripping ‘hoody horror’ EDEN LAKE starring Michael Fassbender, Adam Green’s superb chairlift dangler FROZEN and Michael J. Bassett’s gripping survivalist horror THE WILDERNESS, starring Sean Pertwee. Plus there are UK TV premieres for Eli Roth produced CLOWN and Marcus Nispel’s malevolent shocker THE ASYLUM.

Puff Anthology The Monster Channel Premiere: Press Release: "On October 17th, Philadelphia's film underground will reach out to the world via PUFF: The Best of the Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival 2016, a half-hour anthology of short horror films, airing exclusively on The Monster Channel (monsterchannel.tv).

Produced by PUFF co-directors Madeleine Koestner & Alex Gardner, in partnership with Dan Persons of the Philly video boutique Upstart Company, PUFF: The Best of the Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival 2016 will feature a diverse selection of films from across the U.S, highlighting a staggering variety of unique, and uniquely horrific, visions:

  • In CRSHN ON U, director Mark Rubbo casts his actors into a vivid, digital landscape for his wickedly demonic take on the swipe-right culture of 21st century mating.
  • THE SUMMONERS features director Sean Gill's constantly roving camera as it captures the spooky party games of a group of revelers, and how in a second all the fun can go horribly, horribly wrong.
  • A mad showman preps his "puppets" for his most innovative performance in MARIONETTE, director Brandon Tanczak's salute to the traditions of indie horror.
  • And the pseudonymous director known as A Color Green uses the serene backdrop of the deep forest to frame a disturbing tale of mutilation and death in the stark, dialogue-free MUTE.

Taking the show into and out of commercial breaks will be excerpts from Phil Showzen's sploosherific, "maternity-horror" makeup effects extravaganza, WET NURSE TRILOGY.

"We selected these films to be a guided tour into the progressive depths of horror," said PUFF producer Dan Persons, "leading the audience from visual innovation to classic shocks to an unsettlingly insinuating nightmare.

"When I screened the final cut for PUFF's co-directors Madeleine Koestner and Alex Gardner, Alex said, 'This is exactly what I'd want to see if I was tuning in at 1 AM.' That was music to my ears; that's what we wanted: Something that holds you through the power of its images, something where you have no idea where it's going, how far into the dark you're going to fall, but you can't stop watching.

"It's a thrill to bring the iconoclastic vibrancy of the Philly film scene to the world with this special. We're hoping that viewers are going to be amused, shocked, and, yeah, maybe a little disturbed by what we're offering up. And we're hoping they'll remember the Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival as the world's newest source for visionary genre filmmaking."

PUFF: The Best of the Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival 2016 will debut on The Monster Channel on Monday, October 17th, at 8 PM ET/7 PM CT, with a repeat at 11 PM ET/10 PM CT. The show will then re-air through the end of October; viewers are advised to consult The Monster Channel's listings at facebook.com/monsterchannel.

The producers caution that some viewers may find the content of this show disturbing and offensive.

The Monster Channel can be accessed through its website at monsterchannel.tv, or through its Roku app.

  • Tamika Jones
About the Author - Tamika Jones

Tamika hails from North Beach, Maryland, a tiny town inches from the Chesapeake Bay.She knew she wanted to be an actor after reciting a soliloquy by Sojourner Truth in front of her entire fifth grade class. Since then, she's appeared in over 20 film and television projects. In addition to acting, Tamika is the Indie Spotlight manager for Daily Dead, where she brings readers news on independent horror projects every weekend.

The first horror film Tamika watched was Child's Play. Being eight years old at the time, she remembers being so scared when Chucky came to life that she projectile vomited. It's tough for her to choose only one movie as her favorite horror film, so she picked two: Nosferatu and The Stepford Wives (1975).
