David Harbour now has some company in the upcoming Hellboy reboot, as Ian McShane has reportedly been cast as Professor Broom, the man who adopts the demon Hellboy as his own son.

The news of McShane's casting comes from THR, who revealed that the American Gods and Deadwood actor will play the role performed by the late, great John Hurt in Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Back in May it was reported that a Hellboy reboot was moving forward at Lionsgate and Millennium with Neil Marshall (The Descent) in the director's chair and Harbour (Stranger Things, Suicide Squad) playing Hellboy, who was portrayed by Ron Perlman in the previous two films based on Mike Mignola's seminal comic book series.

According to THR, the creative team behind Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen is aiming to start filming in the UK and Bulgaria this September. Marshall will work from a screenplay penned by Mignola, Christopher Golden, and Andrew Cosby, with Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, and Dark Horse Entertainment's Mike Richardson producing. The reboot will pit Hellboy against "a medieval sorceress" looking to put an end to humanity as we know it.

No other casting details are known at this time, but we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated as more information is announced. In the meantime, check out our Q&A with co-writer Golden. What are your thoughts on McShane playing Professor Broom?
