Idris Elba Confirmed for Pacific Rim

It was noted a couple of weeks back that Idris Elba was in negotiations for a role in Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim. Deadline has now confirmed that he has officially signed on to play Sensi, one of the lead characters in the film. He joins previously announced cast members Charlie Hunnam and Charlie Day in the big monster movie scheduled for release in 2013.

“Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.”

Filming is expected to start this November and we should have additional casting announcements over the next few months. Idris Elba is currently working on Ridley Scott's Prometheus and was seen most recently in Thor.
