Awake in the Woods Trailer: "The woods in Marion, NY have been home to the new feature film "Awake in the Woods", a new collaboration starring and from the minds of M.M. Mayhem Films, Award Winning actor Keith Collins (Stuck in the Middle, BIdentity Crisis, Games People Play NY), Award Winning Producer Theresa Galeani (Cross the Line, Violet to Earth) & Award Winning Filmmaker Nicholas Boise (A Fight For Survival). This small farming community has been witnessing things a little out of the ordinary. Blood, body parts, and frozen animals cover much of the filming location and the actors are not shocked by the action happening on set. Locals have been creeped out just by driving by, most fear going near them while some swear by the story and believe the legend of the Marion woods. Reality came into play while making local news when one actor has a real-life paranormal possession while going a little too deep into the cursed woods, camera’s kept rolling documenting the experience before help finally arrived. This movie, even during daylight shoots, has everyone talking about the things that go 'bump' in the daytime as well as at night.

"Awake in the Woods" tells the story of small town friends Ronnie (Galeani), Derek (Collins), and Tucker (Boise) growing up hearing stories of odd happenings, hunter's reporting strange occurrences, Parents warning their children not to go too far into the woods. But when 7 year-old Madelaine (Madelaine Kemp) does not heed her parents warning and goes missing in the woods these three friends search for the truth. Set out to document their findings, what happened to them is unexplainable. Only one of them was left wandering, alone, awake in the woods."

In our last Indie Spotlight, Kristian Hanson interviewed Richard Powell of Fatal Pictures about their short film Worm. Today, Kristian is back with coverage on Familiar, another Fatal Pictures short making its premiere this Friday. Included is a Q&A with producer Zach Green:

Familiar Impressions and Q&A with Producer Zach Green: Familiar is a short film also directed and written by Richard Powell and starring Robert Nolan as John Dodd. This short film reminds me of Worm in the way that the main character is talking throughout the short film as well. From the beginning you see the distain John has for his wife Charlotte (Astrida Auza). Robert sees his wife as someone that has sucked the life out of him and ruined his life, and that is shown even more when his wife informs him that they are pregnant with another child. Robert had it in his mind that once his daughter Jordan (Cathryn Hostick) moved out and went to college that their life would be better, but now, that is ruined. The next ten minutes of the short are despicable and rather gruesome at parts as you continue to see the decline of the character.

Familiar is a short film that brings out the frustration of the married man who is in a loveless marriage and just wants to find his way out. When he saw the light at the end of the tunnel, it was shattered due to his wife that he had already grown to despise. With his dream being rejected he went to devious ways to get that dream back in turn not only hurting his family but himself. This short was filmed without a budget but when you watch it you can only drop your jaw in amazement because of how clean and professional the film looks. I would suggest viewing this short film if it pops up at your local horror convention or film festival.

How did you come to know Richard?

Zach Green: Back in 2002/2003 when I attended Film School for Post Production in third term, I applied to be the Editor on a short Film entitled "The Offer". Little did I know at the time the Writer/Director would go on to be my now film partner and 1 half of Fatal Pictures.

Where are you from?

Im from Toronto/Canada

What drew you to making and producing movies?

Zach Green: At first I didn't necessarily want to put them together and organize them. I knew I wanted to be a big part of the team, hence going to film school for post. (Editing). As I graduated film school it was just a natural transition to make from editor to producer. I get a great joy and sense of pride when people watch our films and praise them. Because I know it was myself and Richard's hard work that went into making / putting these film(s) together. I enjoy it and get a lot out of it knowing I produced quality film(s).

Did you always want to make movies?

Zach Green: Always. I cant see myself really in any other business. I love it much I have passions for so many avenues of the film world. I was born to make films happen.

What's the movie that made you want to make movies?

There isn't one particular film that really made me want to start editing/producing or whatever it may be in the business. I just love FILM as a whole! I love so many different aspects of it.

What is next for Fatal Pictures?

Well the next step as of now is to really promote and get our latest film entitled FAMILIAR out there on the festival circuit and try and get as much good press as we can. And in the not so distant future the FATAL PICTURES debut feature WORM.
