Back in November, we reported that a TV series based on DC's iZOMBIE was in the early stages of development. The project has been given a pilot order by The CW and we now know who make up the main cast. This series will be set up as a crime procedural based on the comic book series that started in 2010 from Chris Roberson and Michael Allred:
"Gwen Dylan is a gravedigger in an eco-friendly cemetery…and a zombie detective. Once a month, she has to eat a human brain – both to keep from going all "Night of the Living Dead," and to keep her own memories intact. As a result, Gwen's mind is crowded with the dead person's thoughts. And lately, she feels compelled to fulfill their final requests. Torn between a mysterious mummy and a dashing young monster-hunter, Gwen is set for adventures beyond imagination! A were-terrier, a swinging '60s ghost and a pack of paintball blasting vampires complete the cast of I, ZOMBIE."
Veronica Mars' Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero have written the pilot and will executive produce. It has just been announced (via THR) that Rose McIver (Once Upon a Time - pictured below) has been cast in the lead role and it was revealed that the plot will be slightly different from the comic book series:
"Based on the DC comic, iZombie is a supernatural crime procredural that centers on med student-turned-zombie Olivia “Liv” Moore (McIver), who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. But with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head."
Joining Rose McIver is Robert Buckley as Liv's former fiancé, Malcolm Goodwin as the police detective, Alexandra Krosney as Liv’s best friend, and David Anders as the pilot episode's villain.
