Hot on the heels of the news that James Wan will executive produce a new Saw spinoff based on an idea by Chris Rock, it's now been revealed that he'll also executive produce a new series for Netflix, along with directing its first episode.

Multiple sources, including The Hollywood Reporter, reveal that Wan will direct the first episode of Netflix's The Magic Order series, based on the comic book series of the same name written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Olivier Coipel.

Wan will executive produce the series alongside Millar and Lindsey Beer, who wrote the adaptation for Netflix and will be its showrunner as well. Atomic Monster's Michael Clear will also executive produce, with Rob Hackett on board as co-executive producer and overseer of the series.

Mixing mob life with magic and currently comprised of six issues (the first of which hit shelves in June of 2018 from Image Comics), The Magic Order has the following synopsis (via Image Comics):

"We live in a world where we’ve never seen a monster, and The Magic Order is the reason we sleep safely in our beds. Magic meets the mob in THE MAGIC ORDER, as five families of magicians—sworn to protect our world for generations—must battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one. By day, they live among us as our neighbors, friends, and co-workers, but by night, they are the sorcerers, magicians, and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness…unless the darkness gets them first. MARK MILLAR's first NETFLIX comic book, drawn by the incredible OLIVIER COIPEL (Amazing Spider-Man, Thor)."

Although Wan has primarily directed feature films throughout his career, he also directed the first episode of CBS' MacGyver reboot, which he also executive produces.

No casting announcements have been made for The Magic Order at this time, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details as they are revealed.
