After bringing this year's horror hit Get Out to the big screen, Universal Pictures is teaming up with filmmaker Jordan Peele for a new, two-year, first-look deal that will allow them to release his next film, a social thriller.
THR revealed the news that Peele's Monkeypaw Productions is teaming up with Universal Pictures in the new deal, giving Universal the first shot at releasing Peele's projects and allowing them the opportunity to distribute his upcoming untitled project that will reportedly have "about five times bigger" of a budget than the $5 million Peele used to make Get Out. The project will be written, directed, and produced by Peele.
Under the new deal, Peele will also produce films and look to team up with Jason Blum (whose Blumhouse Productions helped support Get Out) on small-budget movies. Here's what Peele had to say about the new agreement (via THR):
"I am thrilled to continue the work we started together on Get Out — pushing the boundaries of storytelling, not only on the next film but with all of Monkeypaw’s future projects."
Universal chairman Donna Langley echoed Peele's excitement and alluded to future years of partnership beyond the two-year deal, saying (via THR):
"The entire Universal family takes great pride in his incomparable filmmaking debut, and feel fortunate that this studio will be Jordan's home for many years to come."
Following the release of the ambitious Get Out, we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated on Jordan Peele's next social thriller.
