While it may not be Friday the 13th, Tuesday the 13th is still shaping up to be a great day for horror fans, as we have a ton of great Blu-ray and DVD releases to look forward to. For all you Phans out there, Well Go USA has put together a new box set celebrating the Phantasm series, complete with a replica silver sphere to boot, and for those of you who have been looking forward to Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition Blu of the House of Wax remake, your wait is nearly over. In terms of new horrors headed home this week, Held, Monster Seafood Wars, Queen of Spades and The Night (2020) are being released on Tuesday as well. And if you happened to miss it in theaters or on HBO Max earlier this year, you can finally catch up with the new Mortal Kombat tomorrow on a variety of formats.

Other Blu and DVD releases for July 13th include The Monster Collection, Separation, Sleepless Unrest, and Tremors 2 through 4 are all getting separate Blu-ray editions, too.

In an effort to repair their ailing marriage, a couple vacations to a remote luxury rental, only to become forcibly trapped inside by an unseen voice that tells them their every move is being watched, revealing intimate knowledge about their relationship. As events get more brutal, the couple must work together to uncover the truth and find a way out before it’s too late.

When their car breaks down on a road trip, six college friends are sidetracked into an eerie backwoods town. Curiosity gets the better of them when they are intrigued by its macabre House of Wax. The Monster Collection (Doppelganger Releasing, Blu-ray)

A creature double-feature from the depths of the drive-in, The Monster Collection features two impressively comprehensive documentaries by Alexandre Poncet and Gilles Penso, Phil Tippett: Mad Dreams and Monsters, a portrait of the man behind some of the most recognizable movie creatures of the modern era, and The Frankenstein Complex, profiling the workaday wizards who turn rubber, latex, and resin into cinema’s most memorable and terrifying creations. Extensive interviews with genre luminaries Rick Baker, Joe Dante, Guillermo Del Toro, John Landis, Dennis Muren, and Paul Verhoeven illuminate the evolution of special effects and stop motion animation in such classics as Star Wars, An American Werewolf in London, Gremlins, Robocop, Jurassic Park, and Starship Troopers. This collector’s set includes hours of exclusive bonus features, including new audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, extended interviews segments, galleries, and rare short films from Phil Tippett.

 

Monster Seafood Wars: Limited Edition (SRS Cinema, Blu-ray)

Yuta, a young master at the Tsukiji Fish Market, accidentally drops his meal of mixed seafood into the Sumida River. Some time afterwards a gigantic mutated squid monster arises from the depths and begins to wreak havoc upon an awe\-stricken Tokyo. Attempts by the Japan Self\-Defense Forces to stop the creature prove futile. As it seems things couldn’t get any worse an enormous mutant octopus monster emerges from the deep and heads into a clash of the titans with the gargantuan squid. As a last ditch effort, the government forms the “Seafood Monster Attack Team (SMAT)” and an all\-new plan of attack is immediately put into action. But just as the tide appears to be turning in humanity’s favor, a colossal crab monster appears, joining in the Monster Seafood Wars and plunging the world into culinary chaos.

The Night (2020) (Scream Factory, Blu-ray & DVD)

After a night out with friends, an exhausted married couple, Babak (Shahab Hosseini) and Neda (Niousha Jafarian), and their baby take shelter in the grand, but eerie Hotel Normandie. Throughout a seemingly endless night, mysterious disturbances ruin their rest as Babak and Neda soon realize they're locked in with a malevolent force that hungers for the dark secrets they've kept from one another.

The Phantasm Sphere Collection (Well Go USA, Blu-ray)

The new limited-edition collection of the classic Phantasm films includes a scale-replica of the Phantasm sphere. This sphere was sized to the exact measurements of a screen-used prop in Don Coscarelli’s personal collection.

The Phantasm Sphere Collection also debuts a new 4k scan from the original camera negative of PHANTASM II. For the first time ever, this new transfer of Don Coscarelli’s director’s cut includes the never-before-seen X-rated sphere/gore sequence banned by the MPAA at the time of its theatrical release.
