Mel Gibson to join Machete Kills?

As reported earlier, Robert Rodriguez is moving forward with Machete Kills. Obviously Danny Trejo will be back, with Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez also likely to return. In terms of new actors that will appear in the film, it is being reported that Mel Gibson has joined the cast.

According to Deadline, Robert Rodriguez has been discussing parts with Mel Gibson and Michelle Williams. Although not officially announced, they claim that he has been in serious discussions for the part and we should have confirmation soon. Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming sequel, which is expected to begin filming within the next few months:

“The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy.”
